LEICHT Küchen puts its trust in the latest batch-size-1 machines from IMA
The German kitchen manufacturer LEICHT Küchen AG from now on relies on the latest production technology from IMA. The traditional company located in Baden-Württemberg, Southern Germany, has invested in a highly flexible batch-size-1 work cell for the production of carcase elements and fronts. The purchase of the machines, which are equipped with the latest technology, comes along with a realignment of the production. With the new investment, LEICHT has optimized the entire production process, where parts shall be processed in an integrated line. The order volume is about 11 million euros.
“LEICHT stands for individuality in kitchen design. That means, its products are available in a wide range of colours, materials and sizes”, says IMA Managing Director Rüdiger Schliekmann. “In order to be able to come up to the complexity of the manufacturing process resulting from this objective, highly flexible 'batch size -1' processing installations are required. Our solutions have been designed to meet all these requirements. We are happy that our technology can contribute to the optimization of the production process at LEICHT.”
Founded in 1928, the company LEICHT today ranks among the most renowned manufacturers of trademark kitchens. The traditional family owned company revolutionized the industry with numerous pioneering innovations, such as the carcase size grid system which is still in common usage. LEICHT Küchen AG produces design kitchens of high value, durability and aesthetic quality for medium to higher incomes. Ecologically friendly materials and environmentally compatible processes are two of the fundamentals of the company’s philosophy. Therefore, the new IMA customer has already been awarded the quality seal for Healthy Living by the Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel (German Quality Furniture Association). Developed exclusively inhouse, its products are based on the principles of ergonomics, functionality and sustainability. LEICHT manufactures all customer orders in Germany.
“In order to be able to produce economically in Germany, the entire production process requires permanent optimization”, says Stefan Waldenmaier, chief executive officer of LEICHT Küchen AG. “Hence we utilize highly flexible processing plants and the most advanced control system technology made in Germany. The batch-size-1 work cells from IMA are a central component in our efforts to increase the quality and capacity of our production. These processing installations offer a much higher degree of automation, better performance and more flexibility. And they work in perfect harmony with our production philosophy.”
Flexibility is the keyword to LEICHT’s success, since the company systematically relies on individual design. In fact, customers can choose from 5000 different colours. Consequently, 270 types of edging tapes are used in the production of carcases and fronts. The IMA machines offer a maximum of flexibility – specifically in processing edging tape: each Combima can be fitted with up to 96 different edging tapes at a time. The integral laser unit allows for a jointless edge, and besides laser edgings, the machines can also process conventional glue edgings.
